Rick Robinson, IBM Executive Architect for Smarter Cities, is responsible for the development and delivery of new solutions to transform cities using technologies such as Cloud computing, the “Internet of Things” and analytics. He has lead IBM’s work in Sunderland to deliver a “City Cloud” computing platform to support innovation by small businesses and social enterprises (), and is a member of Birmingham’s “Smart City Commission“.
Prior to this role Rick held positions responsible for first-of-a-kind project delivery and technology strategy for IBM in areas such as Web 2.0, Social Media, Service-Orientated Architecture, mobile internet and distributed computing. Before working for IBM Rick completed a PhD in the Physics of Superconducting Devices at the University of Birmingham.
